History, Heritage, Archaeology and Conservation Association. Formed in May 2002. Objectives are to undertake documentary and archaeology research and record the results authoritatively; ensure that local buildings and objects of historical significance are preserved or protected; and take an active part in all matters of an historical or archaeological nature in Christchurch. Having been granted licences from English Heritage and Christchurch Borough Council a detailed and comprehensive geophysical survey of the Norman motte and bailey castle in Christchurch was undertaken during August, September and October 2003 using a wide variety of equipment. A report on the findings was submitted to English Heritage and other bodies. Based on the results of the survey, we will be seeking permission to carry out small scale excavations on the site in the near future.
